Graduation Requirements

Credit Acquisition

The graduate students of the Department of Bio-convergence Engineering should complete at least a certain number of credits from this Department through coursework. However, credits earned from the Departments of Biomedical Convergence Science, Health Science, Biomicro Systems Technology, and IT Convergence are approved as credits earned from basic or intensive courses of the Department of Bio-convergence Engineering with the approval of an academic advisor. The credit threshold by coursework for degree acquisition is as follows:

  1. Master’s students should earn at least 14 credits from this Department out of the 24 credits needed for degree acquisition.
  2. Doctoral students should earn at least 18 credits from this Department out of the 36 credits needed for degree acquisition.
  3. Integrated Master’s and Doctoral students should earn at least 27 credits from this Department out of the 54 credits needed for degree acquisition.


Qualification for Degree Acquisition

(1) Master’s program
Students should publish at least one paper in a domestic or international journal or deliver at least one presentation at a conference.
(2) Ph.D. or Integrated Master’s and Doctoral programs
Students should publish at least two papers as a lead author in SCI or SCIE level journals (this includes papers to be published).


Advisor Designated-Courses

Students should get the approval of his/her Academic Advisor and head of the Department for the courses to take in undergraduate or graduate programs (in case of doctoral students) before the start of the semester, and the advisor-designed courses should be completed.

Graduate School Comprehensive Exam

  • Students take the comprehensive exam on the courses designated by the Academic Advisor and approved by the Head of the Department.
  • The number of courses for the exam and requirements are as follows:
  • Master’s program: Two from the basic and intensive courses (one basic course is mandatory.)
  • Ph.D. or Integrated Master’s and Doctoral programs: Four from the basic and intensive courses (one basic course is mandatory.)
  • Those who fail the comprehensive exam should take the courses they fail the following semester.
  • However, the basic and intensive courses approved from other departments cannot be taken for the graduate school comprehensive exam.
